Claude Duet is Anthropic’s proactive AI agent (new to it? Read what is Claude Duet first). The good news on price: there’s no extra charge right now. The catch is how it uses your usage limits. Here’s what that means.

How much does Claude Duet cost?

Claude Duet costs nothing extra during the research preview. You just need a Claude plan that includes it.

Plan Price (US) Includes Claude Duet?
Free $0 No
Pro $20 a month, or $17 a month billed yearly ($200 up front) Yes, by waitlist
Max From $100 a month Yes, by waitlist
Team / Enterprise Varies Not yet (planned for later)

Prices are from Anthropic’s pricing page on the date at the bottom of this article. Check the official page before you buy.

Is Claude Duet free?

No, not on its own. You can’t use Duet on the Free plan. But if you already pay for Pro or Max, Duet doesn’t add anything to your bill during the preview. You also need a waitlist invite. See how to get Claude Duet.

Does Claude Duet use my usage limits?

Yes. A usage limit is the amount of Claude you can use in a set time. Claude plans have a five-hour session limit and a weekly limit. Duet shares both with the rest of Claude.

Duet uses them at the same rate as normal chats. But it does more on its own:

  • Your morning brief counts.
  • Its check-ins on your apps count.
  • Background tasks count. Big jobs, like building a financial model or a deck, use more.

So you may hit your limits sooner than with chat alone. To save usage, Duet checks your accounts every few hours rather than all the time.

The one-time usage limit reset

When you’re let into Claude Duet, Anthropic gives you one full reset of both your five-hour and weekly limits. It’s a one-off top-up to help you try Duet without running out.

The reset is available until November 30, 2026, according to Anthropic’s help article.

Make the reset count

Use the reset for a bigger first task, like a dashboard or forecast. That shows you what Duet can do without eating into your normal week.

Will Claude Duet cost extra later?

Anthropic hasn’t said. Duet is included at no extra cost “during the preview”. There’s no word yet on pricing after the preview ends. We won’t guess. We’ll update this page the day Anthropic announces anything.

Frequently asked questions

Is Claude Duet included in Pro and Max?

Yes. During the research preview, Claude Duet is included with Pro and Max plans in the US at no extra cost. You still need a waitlist invite to start using it. It isn't included in Free, Team or Enterprise plans yet.

Is Pro or Max better for Claude Duet?

Pro is fine for trying Duet with a few connected apps. If you hand it big jobs, like financial models or decks, or you also use Claude heavily, Max gives you more room before you hit limits. Start with Pro if you're unsure.

Why does Claude Duet use limits faster than chat?

Because it works even when you're not typing. Its morning brief, check-ins and background tasks all count toward your limits. Large tasks also take many model steps. Chat only uses limits when you send a message.
