Claude Duet is Anthropic’s proactive AI agent. (For the big picture, see what is Claude Duet.) This guide lists what it can do during the research preview, and what it can’t.
What can Claude Duet do?
Here are Claude Duet’s main features, from Anthropic’s launch post and help article:
- Morning brief. A short daily list of what matters across your apps.
- Ongoing check-ins. It checks your apps every few hours and messages you only when something needs you.
- Tasks of any size. From scheduling meetings to building dashboards, forecasts, prototypes and web apps.
- Files you can edit. Bigger jobs come back as docs, sheets and decks in the Make tab.
- A Tasks tab. It tracks ongoing work and anything waiting on you. Only you can mark a task as done.
- Text or voice. One main thread, plus optional channels that share memory.
- Connectors and plugins. More than 6,000, including Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack, QuickBooks, Stripe, Gusto, HubSpot, Docusign and Shopify.
- Payments. It can buy things through Link and Shop Pay, after you approve.
What is the Claude Duet morning brief?
The morning brief is a short daily summary that Claude Duet sends you. It pulls the most important items from your connected apps, like email and calendar, and drafts next steps.
For example, a brief might flag an overdue invoice, a meeting that clashes with a flight, or payroll waiting for review. During the day, Duet follows up with updates when something new needs you. You can choose what you hear about and how often.
Background tasks on its own cloud computer
Claude Duet works on its own cloud computer. That’s a virtual computer that Anthropic runs for you, with its own web browser. Because the work happens there, your phone or laptop doesn’t need to stay on.
When a task is done, or needs your review, Duet sends you a notification. If you can’t approve something right away, it carries on with other work and brings the request back later.
Can Claude Duet browse the web?
Yes. For sites that don’t have a connector, Claude Duet uses a cloud browser on its own computer.
Two limits to know:
- You can’t watch it. You can’t see or take over its browser yet.
- Sign-ins are limited. Signing in to sites with your saved 1Password logins is “coming soon”, with your permission.
Can Claude Duet make payments?
Yes, but only with your approval. Claude Duet buys things in two ways:
- Link, Stripe’s digital wallet. Duet confirms the item with you, then Link asks you to approve the spend. It pays with a one-time virtual card, so your real card number isn’t shared.
- Shop Pay, from Shopify. Duet can check out at online stores that use it.
Each Link or Shop Pay purchase uses a card that works only for that one purchase. If something goes wrong with an order, contact the store, Link support or Shop support. Read more in is Claude Duet safe?
What can’t Claude Duet do?
Claude Duet has clear limits during the preview. It can’t:
- Trade stocks or other securities, even if you approve.
- Move money between your accounts, even if you approve.
- Access someone else’s account, even if you approve.
- Make phone calls or send texts to other people. (It can send emails from your connected accounts, with your OK.)
- Change your Claude work. It can read it, but not edit it. It also can’t see all your projects or files on your computer.
- Let you pick the model. It always runs on Claude Opus 5.5.
- Watch your apps every second. It checks at intervals, so an urgent item may wait until the next check.
Some connectors are limited too. Microsoft 365 isn’t available yet, and Slack works with limits, according to Anthropic’s help article.
Better at work than errands
